EconMind League
1 Ownership and administration#
EconMind League is the name of an online academic exchange initiative and is not a separately incorporated legal person. Copyright and other intellectual property belong to the relevant creators, lawful joint owners or other rights holders under applicable law and valid agreements. Participation, a role title, hosting, funding or collective governance does not automatically transfer ownership.
The Leadership Group collectively administers project intellectual property within the permissions actually granted. Samuel leads coordination for the economic engine, code and intellectual property. Yale's funding and organisational coordination and other contributors' technical or publicity responsibilities do not displace anyone's ownership or create a power to license another person's work without authority.
The Initial Founders are recognised by the project's governance records. That recognition protects attribution and consultation; it does not establish ownership of all contributions, a registered legal entity, equity or unrestricted licensing authority. Work described informally as project intellectual property must still have an identifiable rights holder and a valid basis for project use.
2 What may be protected#
Protected material may include original source code, software structure and expression, economic engine implementations, documentation, writing, original charts, designs, photographs, artwork, branding and a protectable selection or arrangement of materials. Protection depends on applicable law and the rights in the particular material.
This policy does not claim exclusive copyright in economic theory, mathematical facts, abstract algorithms, general methods, unoriginal data or ideas merely because they are used on the platform. Confidential technical know-how may require separate lawful confidentiality and access arrangements. Publicly disclosed code is not made confidential by this policy. No patent, registered trademark or database right is asserted unless it actually exists and applies.
Third party materials, libraries, datasets and assets retain their own notices and licences. The project can grant no broader rights than it holds. Lawful quotation, statutory exceptions and previously granted valid rights remain available.
3 Use of the website and public materials#
You may access and use intended website features for the personal educational, research and community purposes allowed by the Terms and any activity conditions. Necessary technical copying for that authorised use is permitted to the extent the relevant operator is entitled to permit it. This does not grant a general right to republish materials, scrape a collection, distribute the source code, create a hosted copy or use the badge for your organisation.
For reuse beyond a legal exception or an express existing licence, obtain written permission from the relevant rights holder or an expressly authorised representative. Attribution alone is insufficient. A school, club or non-profit purpose is not a general exemption. Any permission should identify the material, version, audience, purpose, duration, modification rights, attribution and further distribution rights.
4 Source code and the economic engine#
The original project source code is currently on GitHub without a declared general software licence. It is therefore not offered under a general open source licence. Unless the relevant rights holder has given effective permission, or applicable law or an existing valid licence permits the act, do not reproduce, republish, redistribute, create derivative works from, deploy, sublicense or commercially exploit that code or its protected implementation materials.
Public access does not itself authorise operating a copy of the platform or economic engine. Rights that the applicable GitHub terms grant for public repositories, such as viewing or forking within that service, are preserved within their actual scope. They must not be described as permission for unrestricted external distribution, deployment or commercial use. This policy does not retroactively revoke rights already validly granted.
Third party software is governed by its own licence, not by a claim that all repository contents are exclusively reserved. Check file notices, dependency licences and earlier contributor permissions. Only a rights holder or duly authorised agent can grant additional permission for that holder's work. Do not infer permission from repository access, a merged contribution, silence or an administrative role.
5 Ordinary submissions and public display#
Ordinary users retain their rights. The Terms grant only the operational permission needed for the submitted work and stated audience. Private work does not become a public contribution by default. Optional public publication requires a specific choice or separate valid permission. Future public club pages or sharing controls do not receive permission in advance through a general account checkbox.
Personal information remains subject to privacy law even if a copyright licence permits display. Copyright permission does not replace a lawful data basis, guardian arrangement or an appropriate notice.
6 Core contributor permissions#
For core code, engine components, official web content and official social media materials, a separate written contribution record should identify each creator, the contribution and the permission granted to the named individuals operating EconMind League. The intended arrangement is a long-term, conditional, non-exclusive permission to operate, maintain, display and disseminate the contribution for the agreed project purposes. Ownership stays with the creator unless a separate valid assignment expressly provides otherwise.
The permission must specify authorised technical reproduction, integration, maintenance and distribution within project channels, attribution, routine editing, any limits and ending arrangements. It does not automatically permit a sale, general sublicensing, open source release or a new commercial deployment. A change of leader does not itself transfer copyright or enlarge the licence; access by a successor must fall within the agreed permission and documented handover.
Routine changes such as formatting, spelling, accessibility, compatibility and agreed maintenance should preserve the work's meaning and authorship. Material changes to an author's argument, conclusions or attribution, or to a contribution's licensed purpose or distribution, require consultation and any additional authorisation needed from the relevant rights holder. A failure to respond is not consent to a new licence. For urgent safety or legal concerns, restrict or remove the affected publication rather than falsely attribute a substantive rewrite.
The internal Contributor License Agreement provides a proposed mechanism; it is effective for a particular contribution only when properly completed and accepted by the actual parties with capacity. A contributor’s departure or account closure does not by itself end the agreed long-term operational permission. A contributor may request a negotiated adjustment or termination; continued use stays within the original permission unless a written agreement, an effective ending provision or applicable law provides otherwise. Lawful remedies for material breach and mandatory revocation or termination rights remain available. An unsigned template does not retrospectively license existing work. Author attribution and integrity interests must be respected to the extent required by law, without a blanket waiver of moral rights.
7 Research Library authors#
Papers and academic reports in the Research Library remain with their authors or other lawful rights holders. EconMind League's role is hosting, presentation or linking under an appropriate permission. A hosting permission may cover agreed metadata, technical formatting and preservation, but not an unagreed rewrite, sale, commercial sublicense or open licence.
Each item should state its authors, publication status, source and any express reuse licence. Where no reuse licence is stated, do not assume general republication rights. Coauthor, publisher and third party rights must be cleared before hosting. After proportionate verification, an author may request withdrawal of the full text. A valid request must be acted on within a reasonable period, subject to coauthors’ rights, valid publisher permissions and mandatory law, with any specific limit explained. Only necessary title, author, publication-date and withdrawal metadata may remain on a lawful basis. This full-text right is separate from a core contribution’s continuing operational licence. Restricted record retention and backup handling remain subject to lawful necessity; a legal or privacy concern may require earlier restriction or removal.
8 Name badge and official statements#
The name and badge identify the project. Rights in original artwork remain with the relevant creator or other lawful holder, with administration only under a valid mandate. No registration status is implied. Do not copy, alter, crop, remove required attribution from or use brand artwork beyond permission or a lawful exception. Do not suggest unapproved school endorsement, partnership, founder approval or an official role.
An authorised brand use must state its purpose, approved artwork, duration and any required attribution. Permission for branding does not include permission for software or academic works. Factual reference and lawful commentary are not prohibited merely because they mention the project.
9 External and commercial licensing#
A proposal for paid use, commercial deployment, paid sublicensing or other external commercial exploitation must be discussed by the Leadership Group and Initial Founders and receive a recorded governance decision under the applicable internal rules. That is an internal approval step, not a grant of copyright permission.
Before any offer becomes binding, identify the actual contracting persons and obtain effective written permission from each relevant rights holder. Check coauthored work, earlier licences, third party components, attribution, territory, term, permitted deployment, source access, maintenance, fees, revenue allocation and termination. Obtain specific permission for personal information or branding where applicable. No member may promise exclusive rights that the project does not own or has already licensed non-exclusively.
Commercial licensing is possible only within the resulting permissions. An internal majority, founder status or personal receipt of support funds cannot override a rights holder's refusal or an incompatible third party licence. No general external commercial licence is granted by this policy.
A non-exclusive operational licence alone does not appoint the platform as an enforcement agent or establish standing to sue. A rights holder may separately elect a work-specific mandate for an identified representative to coordinate infringement reports or notices to GitHub and other hosts. Any mandate must state the authorised acts and limits. A court claim, settlement, waiver, receipt of compensation or statement in the rights holder’s name requires the authority and legal standing applicable to that act; none is implied by a project title.
10 Concerns and correction#
Email admin@econmind.group with the work or URL concerned, the right you claim, the basis of your authority, a description of the issue and a suitable reply contact. Avoid unnecessary personal information. Reports are assessed proportionately; access may be temporarily restricted while a credible concern is reviewed. The affected contributor should have an opportunity to provide context where lawful and practicable.
Outcomes may include attribution correction, a permission check, replacement with authorised material, restriction or removal. A report does not automatically establish ownership or infringement. Ask for reconsideration if relevant evidence was missed. Applicable legal procedures and remedies remain available. Amendments to this policy cannot retrospectively expand a contributor's agreed licence.
